Salif Keita is forever etched in our memories. Also known as the 'Golden voice of Africa, with his unique angelic voice, he captured the hearts of many.Salif Keita was born on the 25th of August 1949, in Djoliba Mali from a notable royal background, Salif Keita's life was anything but royal as he grew up.He was born with albinism a rare group of genetic disorders that cause the skin, hair, or eyes to have little or no color a defining part of his life he often spoke of and sang about.

People with albinism where often shunned in their communities and committed to harrowing acts of terror by being killed for ritual purposes. He released about 25 albums in his career as a singer, from his first album "Soro", released in 1987 to his final album Another White which was released in October 2018 when he announced his retirement as a musician.

His most recieved album, 'La Difference' , was dedicated to ending violations of the rights of persons with albinism all over the world. He established the Salif Keita Global Foundation an organization that also helped raise awareness to the plight of those with albinism.

Salif Keita's signature sound was a mixture of instruments that comprised of a guitar, organ and a saxophone, a sound so unique and captivating it is pleasant for the ear.His music was good enough to capture the attention of different races and color , l remember at a very young age listening to one of his soulful tracks

Jai pris mon habit pour me rendre chez ma cherie ,

My father was a huge fan of his music and whilst l could not understand the lyrics because of the language barrier ,l could feel something tearing into my soul as l listened to the track. We thank the great artist for the pleasant melodies he created during his time. And the greatest gesture of defiance, that says one can become whoever they want to be irregardless of any condition they may find themselves in.
